It’s prom season right now and seeing all the posts from my friends with high school-aged kids on top of plenty of Buzzfeed articles makes me a little nostalgic for my own prom. It wasn’t even overly memorable — a reasonably drama-free night with some pretty cool friends — but there’s something about hitting that decade mark this year that made me want to look back at some of the songs I remember from that hot June evening back in 2008.
First, though, we need to bask in the gloriousness of this pre-prom picture:
Also, this obligatory, “nice” couple picture for the parents:
Aaaaannnndddd….the duck face ridiculousness:
Now that I’ve shared some embarrassing high school prom pictures, what type of music was played at my high school prom?
Flo Rida’s “Low” featuring T-Pain, “Get Low” by Ying Yang Twins and Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, Timbaland’s remix of OneRepublic’s “Apologize”, “Cyclone” by Baby Bash and T-Pain….yeah, I think you get it. Also popular was “Hey There Delilah” by the Plain White T’s, “All Summer Long” by Kid Rock, and Kanye West’s “Stronger”.
My high school prom also happened to be right at the height of Rick Rolling. Of course one of my friends had to request that song and Rick Roll the dance.
We were nostalgic for the Spice Girls and Justin Timberlake was once again relevant to us; although, as a solo act rather than in a boy band. The music we danced to, some of the most popular on the charts, might not stand up to the test of time in the long run, but it was fun music and I think I will always get a little psyched when I hear any of those songs now.
