Title: Midnight Star
Author: Marie Lu
Publication Date: October 2016
Two Sentence Synopsis: Adelina continues to take over new territories and rules with fear. But there is a threat that risks destroying their world and she must team up with old enemies to defeat it.
Review: As far as finales go, I really, really enjoyed this one. Lu created a common goal for her characters to work towards and got them to cooperate long enough to do what they needed to do. Each character develops in ways that make sense and not once does the writing feel forced. I particularly enjoyed how Adelina’s character arc played out.
The ending to this trilogy fits the story and brings the series to a neat close. I enjoy books and series that wrap things up nicely and don’t leave narrative loose ends. Of course, there are times when it makes sense for a series to not have clean endings, but for the Young Elites trilogy, anything else would have felt messy.
